Setting Descriptions

March 21st, 2017 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Our current topic in literacy is ‘adventure stories’ and we began with a picture of our setting and then discussed how we could describe this effectively. We looked at the use of adjectives, adverbs, ENP’s and prepositional phrases to come up with some fantastic description.

Today the new classrooms were officially opened that year 6 are very lucky to be using right now. The year 6 children gave a great presentation about the classrooms and spoke beautifully about how they feel these new classrooms will help prepare them towards their next journey as they move into secondary school.

Poetry with Mike Barfield

March 1st, 2017 · 3 Comments · Uncategorized

This morning we had a workshop with Mike Barfield to look at Limerick poems before we created our own. This was an amazing session and we even got to listen to some of Mike’s amazing work which I’m sure we all want to go out and buy now.

Here is an example of just one poem we created this morning.

What was your Limerick about?

World Book Week

February 27th, 2017 · No Comments · Uncategorized

We have made a start to a very exciting world book week as we begin to design our own class story. To link in with our spy topic, we have decided to create an adventure story based on secret agents.

Splitting into groups, each group has a focus area of the story from the setting description to the resolution. The groups have been kissing well with each other to make sure their section flows from the previous.

By the end of the week we will have a story to put together and create as a class.

A Broken World

February 23rd, 2017 · No Comments · Uncategorized

This week in R.E, we have been looking at our ‘Broken World’ and how people across the world try to mend it. This created a really thought provoking discussion between the class and allowed us to discuss situations that we felt were breaking the world as we see it today.

Holocaust Centre

January 18th, 2017 · 2 Comments · Uncategorized

As part of our ongoing partnership with the Holocaust Centre in Laxton, 14 lucky children returned to the centre to begin their training day for becoming a guide.

We were given the opportunity to explore the ‘journey’ and then take turns in guiding another school through the centre. We cannot wait to do this for real next week when we get to take our parents with us!

The year 6 children did Mr.White proud and were once again, as always, a real credit to our school.

Personal Values

January 18th, 2017 · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

In RE this half term, we have started looking at what personal values are and what personal values we have in place for ourselves. We then discussed with our learning partner which of our values was our most important and had to put that into an image we felt suitable for the value.

This raised some great discussions and allowed everyone to justify their values.

Why are personal values important to you? Do you have any that you think relate to you?
